J.M. Meyers of Lee County, Mississippi, has been denied bail following his arrest for conspiring to acquire methamphetamine with intent to distribute. Meyers was previously convicted of selling narcotics in Texas in 1994, for which he served a six year sentence. A former cohort of Meyers’, Kenneth Busby, testified to the DEA’s office that Meyers paid him to transport methamphetamine across the country. It has also been alleged that Meyers has been selling the illegal drug since his release from prison in 2000. The judge denied bail based on Meyers’ previous history and police officers’ belief that he is likely to flee the country if released from jail. Prior to this decision his wife, Deborah Meyers, testified that she would be able to monitor her husband’s whereabouts, but also that she had not known about his legal history.
