Officers were in the process of serving a warrant for a probation violation for Kermit Bryson when they were shot down early this morning. Bryson was trying to get away from the officers and shot both that can to arrest him.
When locals heard the shots, back up was immediately called. Police arrived on the scene and the two officers were immediately rushed to the closest local hospital. The town, Monteagle, is home to only about 1,200 people so the shooting was quite a surprise to the town. A witness said that the shots went off and then the shooter immediately fled the scene.
One officer was pronounced dead on arrival at the hospital and the other is in critical condition at the local hospital. There is no word yet on the severity of his wound and word will be released as soon as the doctors know.
